Our story is the definition of never give up.

When we met I was 14 on school holidays at my aunt’s house, he was 18, visiting his friend, who is my aunts neighbour. I was an awkward teenager, seeing this really handsome guy staring at me. Too shy to speak, I ran into my aunt’s house. He spoke to my aunt, asking who I was and said he wanted my number, as he thought I was the most beautiful girl he ever saw. I told my aunt no, as I was concentrating on my studies.

We went our separate ways, until a family party, 12 years later and I noticed him there. He enquired who my dad was and as I was on stage giving a speech for my cousin, I noticed him sitting with my dad chatting. But we never spoke that night either, but on the ride home my dad kept praising what a nice guy he was. Later that evening he decided to Facebook friend me, we chatted for a bit and I still was not feeling it, so I blocked him. A year later, he tried again and I chatted and unfriended him again.

Then 3 years ago, we randomly met at a Diwali party, I was embarrassed because I had blocked him twice, but he still persisted. Introduced himself with a hand shake, and now 3 years later we are engaged planning our wedding.

Call it serendipity or the universe showing us glimpses of our soul mate but waiting for the right time for it all to align. It took us 20 years, for just a proper face to face, but we both had lessons to learn, so that when we did get together, we knew how to love each other.
